Big Bend National Park, a true hidden gem tucked away in southwest Texas, is a land of stark beauty and surprising variety.

Big Bend surprises many visitors with its desert landscape. The Chihuahuan Desert covers most of the park, with towering cacti, scrubby brush, and a sense of rugged isolation.

A Desert Oasis

The Chisos Mountains rise dramatically from the desert floor, offering a welcome change in scenery and cooler temperatures.  Don't miss South Rim Trail for breathtaking vistas.

Mountain Majesty

The lifeblood of the park, the Rio Grande carves a scenic canyon along the border with Mexico. Take a raft trip down the river for a unique perspective.

Rio Grande River

With over 250 miles of trails, Big Bend caters to hikers of all abilities. Hike through canyons, climb mountain peaks, or explore historic sites. The Lost Mine Trail is a popular moderate trek with scenic views.

Hiking Heaven

Light pollution is minimal in Big Bend, making it a prime spot for stargazing.  Look out for constellations, the Milky Way, and even meteor showers.

The Hot Spring Historic District features natural hot springs flowing into the Rio Grande. Relax and take in the scenic views.

Soak in the Hot Springs

Take a donkey ride across the Rio Grande to the small Mexican village of Boquillas for a taste of a different culture. Be sure to bring your passport!

Explore Boquillas

Big Bend is a haven for birdwatchers, with over 450 species recorded in the park. Keep an eye out for roadrunners, curve-billed thrashers, and golden eagles.

Go Birding

The park is a treasure trove of fossils, from dinosaur bones to marine creatures. Visit the Barton Creek Greenbelt for a chance to find your own fossils.

Learn about the area's rich history at the Chihuahuan Desert Research Institute and the South Rim Visitor Center.
