Congaree has some of the tallest trees on the East Coast! Pine trees reach over 160 feet high - that's like a 16-story building! Many trees are hundreds of years old.
See bobcats, deer, otters, and over 200 types of birds! Look for colorful wood ducks, big blue herons, and hooting owls. You might even spot wild pigs!
Visit in late May or early June for thousands of fireflies blinking together at the same time! This amazing light show happens in the dark forest and looks like magic.
The Boardwalk Loop is great for families - it's a 2.4-mile wooden walkway up in the trees! Other trails let you explore different parts of the forest.
Paddle canoes or kayaks on the river for a different view of the forest. The calm water is perfect for beginners, and you might see animals from your boat.
Congaree is a "Dark Sky Park" which means you can see tons of stars! Bring a blanket and look up to see the Milky Way and planets you can't see in cities.
Camp at Bluff Campground for a real nature experience. No fancy bathrooms, but you'll hear owls at night and birds in the morning!
Spring is great for flowers and nice weather. Summer has fireflies but gets hot and buggy. Fall has pretty colors. Winter is quiet and peaceful.
